Nine escape Cessna Grand Caravan crash on Mafia Island

CESSNA GRAND CARAVAN CRASHES ON TAKE OFF AND BURNS OUT

Information was received of the crash of a Cessna Grand Caravan C208B while attempting to take off from Mafia Island to Dar es Salaam. The pilot and passengers managed to escape from the aircraft before it caught fire and burned out. The aircraft registration was given as 5H-NOW and the aircraft was reportedly operated by Tropical Air.
The aircraft, manufactured in 2010 has the Cessna serial number 208B-2209.

Six of those onboard were taken to a local hospital but their present condition is unknown.

The Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority has confirmed the crash and deployed an air accident investigation team to Mafia Island to collect evidence as the cause of the accident is being sought.
Tropical Air is based in Zanzibar and operates a fleet of aircraft for scheduled and charter flights across Tanzania.
